MAY 2007. COMPETITION | SECOND PRIZE | Aproximate budget: 15.374.200 €
The purpose of the project is simple: creating a topography that functions as a support for a water garden as rich and as diverse as possible.
The building itself is used as a cast for the new relief, so that it is not necessary to design the landscape artificially, but it is the result of covering the building with the soil of the garden. Given the tectonic characteristics of the dome, this is the element used for housing the programmatic spaces, as the dome structurally functions only under compression withstanding the efforts of the soil without generating tensions in the structure and with very little material. If concrete is used beside that, the durability and the stability of the structure will be outstanding. A system of inflatable airforms, reinforcement and shot-concrete is used which makes the execution of the domes technically and economically viable. In short, a building covered with a garden or a garden shaped by a building.
